Gift cards are a popular choice for holiday presents, but they can be kind of boring to pass around. If you're giving a gift card, making it more exciting to receive by folding a pretty origami envelope from Christmas patterned scrapbook paper. About Origami has an Origami Gift Card Envelope tutorial that shows you how to do this.

If you want to make a cute gift for a college student or young person living in her first apartment, try folding several gift card envelopes to use as ornaments on a small Christmas tree. Fill the envelopes with $5 or $10 gift cards to fast food restaurants, gas stations, and other places you know the recipient would enjoy.

Did you know that many stores offer gift card bonus promotions during the holiday season? I've seen a few restaurants in my area offering a free $10 gift card when you buy $50 worth of gift cards. Yesterday, I earned a $10 gift card to Target with my $50 purchase. Check out Time Business & Money for a list of some of the best gift card deals of the holiday season.

A restaurant gift card is not worthwhile if you need to buy 2 adult meals in order to redeem it. I live (and go out to eat) by myself so what would be the point is getting one?
