If you've already mastered folding the money origami heart, try making a money origami bookmark with a heart shaped embellishment on the top.
To make your money origami heart bookmark, you will need one crisp bill. If you don't have any crisp bills, ask a teller at your local bank to find some for you. Crisp bills are easier to fold and result in a final model with a neat and tidy appearance.
There are several fun ways you could use this money origami project. A bookmark made from a bill of a larger denomination would be a great gift tucked inside a hardcover book. If you are a parent who makes a point to give your children books as gifts, adding a money origami heart bookmark is a nice way to make your present seem more exciting. A money origami heart bookmark would also be a unique teacher appreciation gift. You could have your child pick out a book to donate to the teacher's classroom library, then tuck in a money origami heart bookmark that the teacher could use to buy whatever other supplies are needed for her students.
1. Make the Initial Folds
The first step in the project is to place the bill directly in front of you with the reverse side face up. Fold your bill in half lengthwise. Unfold, then fold each side into the middle so your bill is divided into four equal sections. Unfold. Fold the top right corner down so that it meets the first quarter crease mark and forms a small triangle as shown in the photo to the left.
2. Fold the Top of the Bill Down
Flip the bill over. Using the small triangle you just folded as a guide, fold the top of the bill down as shown in the photo to the left. Once this fold has been made, you can unfold the small triangle. It is no longer needed.
3. Fold into the Center
Flip your dollar bill over. Fold the top left and right corners in to meet the center crease line as shown in the photo to the left. Try to align the bill so the number "1" on each side lines up when the fold is made.
4. Begin Forming the Heart Shape
Step 4A: Now, it is time to make the folds that create the heart embellishment at the top of the finished bookmark. Refold the dollar bill along the left quarter crease line you made in the previous step. Bring the flap made in Step 2 up so your money origami heart bookmark looks like the one in the photo to the left.
Step 4B: Repeat this process with the right side of the bill. When you're finished, check to make sure the folds are symmetrical.
5. Complete Your Money Origami Heart Bookmark
Flip the bill over. Bring the top triangular point down. Blunt the corners of the left and right rectangles by making small mountain folds. This will give your money origami heart bookmark its final shape.
To use the bookmark, slip the bottom point of the heart over the last page that you have read.
If you like this origami project, but don't want to make a bookmark from the cash in your wallet, simply cut a sheet of pretty origami paper to it is the same size as a dollar bill.
