Project Overview
  • Total Time: 1 hr
  • Yield: 1 pocket
  • Skill Level: Kid-friendly

Learn how to fold a cool origami pocket to store all of your origami paper for your projects, this is especially useful if you bought some origami paper and it is still in a flimsy plastic packet, these often break, so to keep your paper straight and crease free it's important to store it properly.

This is a very easy origami envelope to make, you will only need rectangular paper.

You will need to find some larger paper and something to measure and cut it to size.

You can use wrapping paper, butchers paper, brown postal paper, pretty wash paper available in rolls from craft shops and also you can find A2 and A3 paper individually or in pads at most art and craft shops, as well as big chain stores like K-mart and Target.

What You'll Need

Materials

  • 1 rectangular sheet of paper, such as A4 or letter paper

Instructions

  1. Determine the Right Paper Size

You will need one sheet of rectangular paper such as A4 or letter paper. For example, an envelope made with 21 x 29.7 (A4) will fit small paper that is about 8 to 10 centimeters.

If you want to fit in some paper that is 15 x 15 centimeters, start with paper that is 47.6 x 34 centimeters.

To work out how big your paper needs to be, take the width of your paper (that will go in the pocket). Using 20 centimeters as an example, add 2 centimeters, depending on how many sheets there will be.
Now do this sum using your number (22)
    22 x 2.8 = 61.6
    22 x 2 = 44

So you would need a paper that is 61.6 x 44 cm.

  2. Fold the Paper Diagonally

You can watch a quick video tutorial of this model here.

Start with your paper white side up. Fold the top right corner down diagonally and align with the bottom edge. Unfold. Fold the top left corner down diagonally and align with the bottom edge.

  5. Fold the Corners Up

Fold the bottom right corner up to the top center point. Fold the left corner up as well.

If you have used thicker paper, in order to make your flaps meet at the center, you might need to cut off the flaps you folded under in the previous step.
