This origami model is a traditional design, great to stick onto greetings cards, scrapbook decorations, or part of an origami display Shikishi—a scene made up of origami models, such as an ocean-themed one. These would also make great cupcake toppers, baby mobile decorations, or party place cards.

You will need one sheet of square paper, it's suggested to use thinner paper, as thicker paper may be awkward to fold at the end.

Begin Folding

If you have a white side, start white side up.

Fold the paper in half vertically and unfold.

Fold the top right corner to the middle, followed by the top left corner.

Continue Folding

Fold the right edge to the center.

Fold the left edge to the center,

Fold the model in half up to the top.

There may be a small gap at the top, don't worry about it.

Reverse Fold

Fold the bottom left and right corners into the center and unfold.

Open out the model and reverse fold the left fold you just made.

Continue to Reverse Fold

Continue to reverse fold the right side of the model.

Fold the top edge down to the bottom.

Fold one layer of the bottom right corner to the center.

Finishing Up

Do the same on the bottom left corner.

Turn the model over and you are finished. If you used thicker paper, you might want to stick some of the folds down with glue or sticky tape.

Draw some cute eyes on if you like.

Don't worry if it didn't work out the first time, just try again. Origami can take practice.
