Learn how to make an easy origami lily flower using these simple instructions. This traditional origami model uses only one sheet of paper and takes about just minutes to make.

This origami project would be best for crafters who have already folded simple origami projects such as the origami masu box or worked on the origami sailboat tutorial.

  • 1 sheet square paper

Instructions

  1. Make the First Folds

    1. Start with your paper white side up if you have two-toned paper.
    2. Fold the paper in half diagonally and unfold.
    3. Fold the paper in half diagonally the other way and unfold.
    4. You should now have two diagonal creases.

  2. Flip and Fold

    1. Flip the paper over.
    2. Fold the paper in half as shown and unfold.
    3. Fold the paper in half as shown.
    4. Hold onto the bottom triangle and open out the top right area and bring it down to meet the bottom point.

  3. Create a Square Base

    1. Flatten out the crease in the center.
    2. Squash the top section down. This is called a square base.
    3. The open end needs to be at the top.
    4. Fold one layer of the right edge into the middle as shown.

  4. Fold to the Middle

    1. Fold one layer of the left section to the middle as shown.
    2. Open out the folds you just made.
    3. Open out one layer from the right and flatten it out.
    4. This should be what you have.

  5. Repeat Three More Times

    1. Do all the mini-steps in Step #4 for the remaining three layers.
    2. Make sure the model looks like this—with the layers flipped so that you have the solid section.
    3. Fold the right edge into the middle.
    4. Fold the left edge into the middle.

  6. Complete the Flower

    1. Fold the other three layers the same way.
    2. Fold one layer from the top-down as far as it will go.
    3. Fold the other three layers the same way.
    4. Congratulations on a successful origami lily!
